Piece written for Jazzdock Orchestra, dedicated to Michal Nejtek
How variable or elastic the communication between conductor and jazz orchestra can be. In the piece Pan and Chi, the players are invited to let their habitual way of responding and communicating bend and stretch in different directions. It is the degree of openness, mutual manipulativeness, anticipation of actions and reactions, and moments of frustration with delay that are the source of the emerging music, unfolding from the tension between conductor and players.
