The piece for Prague Quite Music Collective
Hudba na znamení (Music on Cue) is a project initiated by Ian Mikyska and Prague Quiet Music Collective, realized in collaboration with Český rozhlas Vltava.
The concept invites listeners to board a specific means of public transport in a selected city and play a composition created for that exact route. What they hear naturally blends with the acoustic space of the vehicle—tram, trolleybus, or metro—as well as with the view from the window and the presence of fellow passengers.
Seven composers were invited to choose a route, record its sonic environment, and create a piece for string quartet, later recorded for radio. My contribution is based on trolleybus line 77 in Ústí nad Labem, traveling from the city center to Krásné Březno.
The journey ends in a peripheral area where housing blocks, a church, and fragments of forest are pressed up against the highway. At this point, I invite listeners to take off their headphones and continue on foot, listening directly to the place itself.
